Sigh.
EATONTOWN, NJ. - An attendant at a Monmouth County animal shelter was charged with animal cruelty after he killed two cats in the shelter’s surgical recovery room, authorities said.
Police said Daniel Mann, 31, of Belmar was arrested Monday after other workers at the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals shelter reported they saw him strangle one cat and throw another cat to the ground head first.
Mann was held on $30,000 bail in Monmouth County Jail.
County SPCA Chief Victor “Buddy” Amato said Mann had worked at the shelter for about 18 months.
A conviction on an animal cruelty charge carries a maximum three- to five-year prison term.
Again, I typically avoid posting stories like this because they’re too depressing. But a shelter worker did this? A shelter worker? Really? What kind of sick human works at an animal shelter and then kills the very animals he’s supposed to be helping? Unreal.
Not much of a day yesterday. Simple snoozing. Plenty of fresh vittles, and a fire in the woodstove. It’s still not fully Springtime yet - wet and colder yesterday - so we (and when I say ‘we’ I mean ‘me) still need a fire at times.
That’s it for a Wednesday. I hope your week is moving along smoothly, and remember it’s never too early to start thinking about the weekend. See you tomorrow.
